Building Connections Academy is looking for motivated, energetic individuals who have a passion for helping others. At BCA, our foundation is built from the bottom up. Every team member is an integral part of the treatment team focused on one goal, to provide the best possible service to our clients and their families.

We are looking to fill 2 full-time teaching positions in our NPS, Building Connections Academy, which opened last year in Concord, CA.

We are looking for 1 mild/moderate Special Education teacher and 1 moderate/severe Special Education teacher.

Position Overview:
  • As a Special Education K-8 Teacher, you will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in grades K-8.
  • BCA works as a multidisciplinary team.
  • You will work closely with students, parents, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Behavior Interventionists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and ensure that students with special needs are receiving appropriate accommodations, modifications, and interventions to access the curriculum and achieve their educational goals.
  • Your role will involve using a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to adapt curriculum, differentiate instruction, and promote student growth and success.
  • You will facilitate the learning process by designing, planning, and delivering project-based lessons that align with the curriculum and educational standards.
  • Your role will involve guiding students through the entire project-based learning cycle, including identifying real-world problems, conducting research, developing solutions, and presenting their findings.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a small group of students inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, based on their unique abilities, goals, and learning styles.
  • Provide specialized instruction and support in academic, social, emotional, and behavioral areas to students with disabilities, both in inclusive and specialized settings.
  • Use a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to adapt curriculum, differentiate instruction, and address diverse learning needs.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, collect and analyze data, and provide regular progress reports to students, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and other support staff to ensure that students' IEPs are implemented effectively and that accommodations and modifications are provided as needed.
  • Develop and implement behavior management plans, provide counseling and support, and teach social and emotional skills to help students manage their behaviors and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Provide guidance and support to paraprofessionals and other support staff working with students with disabilities, and participate in the development and implementation of professional development opportunities related to special education.
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to establish positive relationships, promote student advocacy, and ensure that students' needs are met.
  • Stay current with best practices, trends, and research in special education, and participate in ongoing professional development to continuously improve teaching practices.
  • Design and implement project-based lessons that are aligned with the curriculum and educational standards, and cater to the diverse learning needs of K-8 school students.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love for learning, encourages creativity, and promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Guide students through the entire project-based learning cycle, including identifying real-world problems, conducting research, developing solutions, and presenting their findings.
  • Provide clear instructions and explanations, facilitate discussions, and encourage collaboration among students to promote active engagement and participation in the learning process.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to enhance student learning and promote 21st-century skills, such as communication, collaboration, and creativity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Interns are welcome to apply. Individuals who qualify for a Short Term Staff Permit are also encouraged to apply, for more information about qualification please visit:
  • Appropriate California teacher credential/permit or out-of-state equivalent approved by CDE for special education, or ability to obtain one.
  • Proven experience in providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities (K-8, elementary experience is required).
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent understanding of diverse learning needs and ability to adapt instruction accordingly.
  • Familiarity with a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies for special education.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a compassionate approach to working with students with disabilities.

We focus on increasing independence for children, teens, and young adults with developmental disabilities through Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). We currently provide services across the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
