Position Title: Patrol Officer
Salary: $33.75 - $46.75 per hour, based on the current FOP contract that expired in June 2024.

Position Details
The City of Groveport, located in southeastern Franklin County, Ohio, is seeking applicants for the position of Patrol Officer. Groveport is a growing community known for its state-of-the-art recreation and aquatic center, world-class golf course, excellent arts and education programs, numerous parks, and a historic Main Street area.
The Groveport Police Department is accepting applications from candidates with less than three years of full-time consecutive experience as a Police Officer, Peace Officer, or Deputy Sheriff as defined by the Ohio Revised Code. Applicants must have completed or be currently enrolled in a Police Academy to be considered.
Additionally, the department is accepting applications from lateral Police Officer candidates with three or more years of full-time consecutive experience in similar roles as specified by the Ohio Revised Code.

Qualifications
Education: Completion of secondary education or equivalent, or any combination of education, experience, and training providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licensure/Certification: Completion of the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Course. Must successfully complete a firearms qualification program, maintain certification under ORC 109.81, be certified in LEADS system operation, breath testing equipment, and possess a valid Ohio driver's license with insurability under the Municipality's vehicle insurance policy.
Equipment Operated
Automobiles, firearms, handcuffs, speed measuring devices, fire extinguishers, breath testing devices, department vehicles, pepper spray, computer crime scene equipment, drug testing kits, data communications equipment, personal computers, computer software, cellular phones, printers, copy machines, fax machines, and other standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
The position involves exposure to various hazardous or physically demanding conditions, such as chemical compounds, loud noise, possible injury from firearms, contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught individuals, and extreme weather conditions. Officers work shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and may need to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 200 lbs.
Job Description and Duties
Essential Functions (70%):
Patrol assigned areas to protect residents and property.
Respond to emergency calls and complaints.
Monitor traffic, enforce laws, issue citations, and make arrests.
Investigate crime scenes, gather evidence, and interview witnesses and suspects.
Conduct traffic accident investigations, perform security checks, and provide emergency services like first aid.
Other Duties (30%):
Generate detailed reports and maintain records.
Testify in court and assist in case preparation.
Serve as a lead officer and assist in training new officers.
Maintain required licensure and certification.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Characteristics
Knowledge of: law enforcement procedures, criminal and traffic laws, public safety practices, investigation techniques, and local geography.
Skills in: computer operation, motor vehicle operation, operation and care of firearms, and use of police equipment.
Ability to: interpret laws, exercise independent judgment, communicate effectively, maintain records, and demonstrate physical endurance and agility.
