Job Description

The Patient Access Supervisor is responsible for operations and supervising staff performing patient scheduling, registration, and other upfront revenue cycle job duties in various Access areas.

This position:

  • Ensures accuracy of data collection and entry into the Health Information System in keeping with all regulatory guidelines and requirements.
  • Has the following supervisory responsibilities include assigning and directing work, staff scheduling and timekeeping, interviewing, recommending for hiring, training, performance appraisals, rewarding and disciplining employees, providing guidance and mentoring of new and/or existing staff with daily work effort and proper handling of accounts. The supervisor is responsible for addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Communicates effectively with clinical/technical departments to ensure timely throughput of patients. 


Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
    • Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
  • CHAA (Certified Healthcare Assess Associate) through NAHAM within 1 year of hire. 
    • CHAM (Certified Healthcare Access Manager) preferred.
  • Five (5) years of healthcare revenue cycle related experience including knowledge of health insurance and applicable laws/regulatory guidelines.
  • Two (2) years in a leadership or management related position.
  • Healthcare information (computer) systems experience (required).
  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of healthcare terminology.
  • Ability to manage very busy patient-facing access points.
  • Ability to manage staff schedules to patient volume demands.
  • Ability to problem solve and manage patient complaints at time of service and at department level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities and meets deadlines.
  • Innovative thinking.
  • Is an agent for change and has a positive, patient centric attitude.
  • Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral and written communications.
  • Self-starter with ability to influence others to grow and improve.
