At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. Responsibilities include: Supervising Fish and Wildlife Technician 1(s), coordinating field operations, conducting all types of fisheries sampling events, conducting outreach events, maintaining gear and ordering new gear as needed, assisting with fishing access site development and upkeep. The fish sampling work may involve work beyond the typical 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. schedule. This position requires the ability to wade through streams while carrying 50 pounds of equipment.
