BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE DEVELOPER – COGNOS Contract to Hire Work Location: Hybrid work in Jersey City, NJ
Hourly Rate: $60/hr. W2 for the contract period. Benefits available
Annual Salary Range : $120,000 to $130,000 annually plus benefits.
ALTA IT Services has a contract-to-hire opening for a Business Intelligence Developer with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Cognos BI architecture, design, and security implementation.
The role will support an IT engineering and consulting company on a large transportation program in Jersey City, NJ. Work is expected to begin in mid-January 2025.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL processes, with expertise in Cognos tools like Framework Manager and Report Studio. Experience with data visualization, SQL, and scripting to enhance Cognos capabilities is required. Familiarity with other BI tools like Power BI or Tableau is a plus. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential.
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum 10 years of experience in Cognos BI Architecture and design, development, and implementation of security at FM Model, Package, and Report Level.
- Proficient in Data warehousing, Data Analysis, Source to Target Mapping, Multi-dimensional modeling and Relational modeling, Star schema, Snowflake schema, Fact and dimension tables, and ETL Processes.
- Experience with the installation and configuration of Cognos suite of tools is required.
- Experience in Cognos 11x Framework and Report Development, Framework Manager, Report Studio, and Query Studio. OLAP and Dimensional Modelling techniques.
- Experience in applying data visualization best practices and telling stories through data visuals and reports to inform the who, what, when, where, and how to be able to understand the key factors driving positive outcomes.
- Solid understanding of Data warehouse concepts and advanced knowledge of using database query language (SQL), using scripting / SDK to extend Cognos Capabilities as needed.
- Experience or Knowledge of other reporting tools like Power BI, Azure analysis service, or Tableau preferred.
- Proficiency in implementing Cognos best practices for performance optimization, architecture, turning, and monitoring.
- Excellent communication, and presentation skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization regularly.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or related fields.
